Hey there!!
Life always seems to be lifin', right? The unexpected things that come up, meeting the demands of work and/or school, family, and more can really be taxing at times. I get it!
Okay...take a few calming deep breaths, and instead of thinking about what may be overwhelming, consider things you can do to offset the demands of a busy life with things that bring you joy, relaxation, and a healthy balance. Plan some "it's about me" time into your daily schedule. with activities that feed your mind, your body, and your soul.
Need some ideas? Take a look at the list below for some wellness hacks that can get you moving, release some stress, unleash your passions, and bring you peace & joy.
**1. Nature Strolls:**
Put on your sneakers, leave the headphones at home and take a leisurely walk in your neighborhood or in a nearby park. Breathe in that fresh air, listen to the birds singing their hearts out, and let nature's wonders work their magic. I like to check out the murals in different neighborhoods...the art is so interesting.
**2. Reading Escapades:**
Put down the phone and close the laptop and snuggle up with a good book or magazine of choice, and embark on an adventure. My good girlfriend recommended this book....it's on its way.
**3. Arts and Crafts:**
Feeling crafty? Unleash your inner artist with some painting, drawing, beading, or crocheting. You don't have to be Mickalene Thomas (my home girl from Camden, NJ); the fun is in the process!
**4. Dance It Out:**
Turn up the volume and dance like no one's watching (except maybe your pet, who may join in on the fun). Dancing to my favorite music (old school hip hop) is one of my go-to stress-busters because it brings back some great memories.
**5. Mindful Meditation:**
Find a cozy spot, close your eyes, and let the worries melt away. Mindful meditation is like a mini-vacation for your mind.
**6. Pamper at Home:**
Who says spa days are only for the spa? Create your own DIY spa experience with face masks, a warm bath, with your favorite scent, and a generous dose of self-love.
**7. Yoga Stretching:**
Yoga is not just about flexibility; it's about finding peace and balance within. So find a yoga spot (YouTube yoga video), strike a pose or a few. Bonus: if you live/work in Philadelphia, check out my wonderful niece's Instagram stories to learn where she will be leading a a yoga class.
**8. Journaling:**
Grab a pen and pour your heart onto the pages of a journal or write what you are thankful for each day. Sharing gratitude helps to focus on the good things going on and sharing what's on your mind is like having a therapist, minus the bill.
**9. Gardening:**
Get your hands dirty and bond with nature as you nurture your plants. Indoor plants not only look great but have great benefits too. One of my favorite things to do is to start from seed or transplant seedlings and watch them do what nature intends.
**10. Cooking Therapy:**
Whip up a storm in the kitchen! Try out new recipes or recreate your grandmother's secret sauce. I'm not much into cooking but when I do get into it, it's a delicious way to unwind. Better still, if your garden includes vegetables and herbs, including your harvest in your meal.
**11. Volunteering:**
Give back to the community by sharing your time and talent. Helping others is great for the soul.
**12. Digital Detox:**
Unplug from screens for a while and reconnect with the real world. No worries, TikTok and Instagram will survive without you for a bit!
**13. Laugh-a-Thon:**
Laughter is the best medicine! Watch a hilarious comedy show or spend time with friends who make you laugh.
**14. Time with Furry Friends:**
Pets are incredible therapists. Spend time playing with and petting your fur babies. Want a pet, adopt at your local shelter. You (and they) will be happy that you did.
**15. Explore Local Gems:**
Be a tourist in your own city! Visit museums, parks, and hidden gems you've never seen before. Check out Eventbrite and other sources to see what's going on in your area...schedule it and GO!
**16. Try Something New**
Make a list of 5 things you've always wanted to do, search for them on Groupon or Eventbrite and do it! I've always wanted to do an Escape Room and hot air ballooning and create pottery.
**17. Positive Affirmations:**
Practice self-love by showering yourself with positive affirmations. You are amazing, and you should hear it often!
**18. Savor a Hobby:**
Rediscover an old hobby or explore a new interest that ignites your passion. I'm going to pick up my crochet needles and get to work.
**19. Sensory Delights:**
Surround yourself with things that make your senses happy. Candles, luxury bed linens, a playlist of music that treat your senses like the treasures they are.
**20. Power Naps:**
Short naps are like mini-recharges for your energy levels. Embrace the power of the catnap!
**21. Sunset or Sunrise Watching:**
Nature's artistry at its finest! Witness the breathtaking sunrise or sunset and let its beauty fill your heart.
**22. Redecorate a Room:**
Take a space or a room and redecorate it. Repurpose some of the things that you have in the closet, paint an accent wall, or get a cool piece of art from a thrift or a local store and go for it. Just by making small changes to a room or space can really change how you view or use the room.
**23. Donate that Stuff:**
We all have some things that no longer fit or use or just don't bring us joy. Box and bag those things up and donate them to a local charity or thrift shop. It's a win-win! Clearing out the clutter frees the mind and donating helps others.
**24. Breathwork Exercises:**
Take a moment to breathe deeply and find tranquility within. It's amazing how a few mindful breaths can change your day.
**25. Fruit-Infused Water Fun:**
Jazz up your water with fresh fruits for a burst of flavor and hydration.
**26. Affection for Your Mind:**
Keep your brain sharp with puzzles, crosswords, and brain-training games—brain fitness is a thing!
**27. Solo Date Day:**
Treat yourself to a solo date—movie, museum, coffee shop, or dinner—it's your day, your way.
**28. Star Gazing Adventure:**
Look up at the night sky (or even go to an observatory) and be awestruck by the stars. It's a beautiful and humbling experience.
